FAQs
All what you need to know and may be more...
Size : How big are the tour groups?
In order to ensure we can give everyone our full attention and an unforgettable experience our shared tours will take a maximum of 8 participants. Private tours can accommodate as many or as few participants as you wish.
Which tour is right for me?
If you are a family with young children we recommend a private tour as we can adapt the pace & the content for you.
The "Good morning Shanghai" will be a great introduction to the local Shanghai with more interactions on the way.
If you are a single, or couple, or local expat we recommend the shared Good morning Shanghai or Shanghai by night tours.
Duration : How long is the tour? How far do we bike?
Approximately 4 hours (10 km) for the "Good morning Shanghai" tour and about 12 km for the Shanghai by night tour, in 4 hours
These are two totally different routes, with very different stops and content.
What languages do you speak?
All of our public weekly tours are held in English.
Depending on tour leader availability, we may also be able to offer other languages for our private tours (English, Chinese, French and Spanish). Please mention your language needs in advance of booking.
Where will we visit? / I want to see ....?
We have standard routes but our itinerary changes over days because Shanghai is changing very quickly, please let us know in advance if you have "must-see" locations or any special requirements which we will try to accommodate on a private basis.

Do you offer group discounts
We are always happy to take on private groups and regularly run promotions. Please click here to contact us for a special Group Request.
Child policy : Do you have any age limitations? Do children get a discount?
If they are at least 12 years old, competent cyclists, and comfortable with some riding alongside cars, then we can accommodate them. The tour leader will make the final decision on site if a child can ride with the group. Adults are responsible for children and their safety at all times.
Children younger than 12 are not suitable for the shared tours and should take a private tour.To be sure that your young child can do a bike tour, you should book a private tour for your family (all ages accepted on private tours, and we have a range of bikes to suit).
We can provide Baby seats (up to 20kg) and smaller bikes on request.
Can I bring my own bike? Do the bikes have special features or gears?
You may bring your own bike, but make sure it is roadworthy. There is no discount for bringing your own bike and our tour leader is only trained to fix our own bikes.
If you get a flat tire our tour leader will give you their bike. All of our tour leaders have access to spare bikes around Shanghai at a moment's notice.
Our bikes are lovingly restored vintage bikes, they are fixed gear bikes with an adjustable seat height. Biking in Shanghai does not require gears as the roads are very flat and we encourage using all the same bike to keep the same standard for the group.
Is it safe to ride a bike in Shanghai? Can you teach me to ride a bike?
Your safety is our priority ! Our amazing tour leaders are well aware of that. Our routes are specially designed to stay far from cars & others motorbikes. We provide free helmets, insurance and safety rules to make sure everyone feels good on the road and focus on what is important.
Unfortunately, we must insist that participants who are unable to ride a bike confidently do not book a shared tour. If you let us know in advance we are happy to offer you a private walking tour instead for example.
What should I wear for the bike ride? Do I have to wear a helmet?
Depending on the season, you should bring:
- A comfortable pair of shoes- Light clothes
- A jumper in case it gets colder
- Rain jacket
- A pair of sunglasses
- A camera with a fully charged battery
- Warm and waterproof clothes, Winter gloves and hat (in Winter)By law you do not have have to wear a helmet while riding a bike in China. However, for insurance purposes we strongly recommend that you do, please check with your insurance provider as their their regulations.
I have a disability, can I come on the tour?
We are committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability. We ask that you carefully consider whether you are physically able to complete the tour you have chosen. We are happy to make reasonable adjustments to the operation of our trips to facilitate the requirements of disabled travellers. Many travellers with disabilities have been able to enjoy our tours by travelling with a friend or companion who can assist with specific needs. If joining a group tour is not practical we may be able to provide you with a private tour.
Is the food served on the tour safe?
